FAQ

Insurance-Covered Implant: Common Questions

Can anyone get an insurance-covered implant?

Eligible: National Health Insurance subscribers aged 65 and over who qualify for scaling without follow-up treatment.

How many insurance-covered implants can I get?

National Health Insurance covers 2 implants per person per lifetime.

What is the patient co-payment rate for insurance-covered implants?

You pay 30% of the covered fee.

What prosthesis is used for insurance-covered implants?

PFM crown restoration and two-piece implant materials are used.

What is the difference between insurance-covered and regular (non-covered) implants?

Insurance-covered implants are for National Health Insurance subscribers aged 65 and over, use designated prostheses and materials (PFM crown, two-piece implant materials), and are covered for up to 2 per lifetime. Regular implants have no age limit, and you can choose from various fixtures such as Dentis, MegaGen and Straumann.

Might an insurance-covered implant also need a bone graft?

Yes. If the bone width is less than about 8 mm for a molar (5 mm fixture + 1.5 mm of alveolar bone on each side), a bone graft may be needed even with an insurance-covered implant.

Is immediate placement possible with insurance-covered implants?

It depends on the bone condition. If initial stability is hard to achieve, we may recommend a different timing instead of immediate placement, even for insurance-covered implants.

How does EROM Dental handle insurance-covered implants?

Many people put off dental treatment and implants because of cost, so we plan treatment that applies insurance coverage first.

Is there a warranty on insurance-covered implants?

As with regular implants, the fixture is warranted for 5 years and the abutment and crown for 2 years, with a check-up required every 6 months.

How do I find out if I am eligible for an insurance-covered implant?

We confirm your health insurance enrollment, age and whether you meet the condition of having had scaling without follow-up treatment during your consultation.

I am under 65. Can I get an insurance-covered implant?

National Health Insurance implant coverage applies to people aged 65 and over; those under 65 receive non-covered (standard) implants.

Is there pain with insurance-covered implants?

Pain is related to the extent of incision and flap elevation, so it depends on your bone and gum condition rather than on whether the implant is insurance-covered. The less the periosteum is irritated, the less the pain.

How much does an insurance-covered implant cost?

You pay 30% of the covered fee; the exact amount is explained at consultation based on the officially published National Health Insurance fee.

Are insurance-covered implants also made in your in-house lab?

Yes. EROM Dental applies EROM Live, which lets patients see how their prosthesis is made, to all prostheses except MINISH, including the PFM crowns of insurance-covered implants.

What is the procedure for applying for an insurance-covered implant?

After confirming your health insurance enrollment and eligibility, we examine your bone with a CT scan, plan the treatment and proceed.

Are the precautions after an insurance-covered implant the same as for a regular implant?

Yes. Apply ice packs for 2–3 days right after surgery, take all prescribed medication, and avoid alcohol, smoking, strenuous exercise and saunas. Swelling and bruising usually resolve within 3 weeks.
