Natural Tooth Preservation at a Glance

How do you decide whether a cracked tooth can be saved?

The Chief Director classifies cracked teeth into four stages by severity to decide on treatment. When needed, we check secondary decay around restorations or crack progression with Q-ray.

FAQ

Questions patients often ask before visiting

What is the Natural Tooth Preservation Program?

A program that helps you keep your natural teeth healthy for a long time. It has two pillars: periodontal curettage to manage gum disease, and overlays, inlays, onlays and laminate veneers (ceramic adhesive restoration) that trim less and preserve the tooth.

What is periodontal curettage?

Tartar and other deposits firmly attached to the roots below the gumline that scaling cannot remove are diagnosed with X-rays and then treated with the K2 laser, a low-power laser that helps reduce gum pain and swelling.

When is periodontal curettage needed?

It is needed for those whose gums swell and bleed often, who have recurring gum pain, who have pus from the teeth and gums, or whose teeth are loose due to gum disease.

Are there precautions after periodontal curettage?

Avoid spicy or irritating foods for about a week, and refrain from smoking and drinking for at least a week. After meals, brush slowly with a soft toothbrush.

Why an overlay instead of a crown?

If a crown trims away even sturdy tooth walls because of the problem area and covers the tooth again, an overlay precisely repairs only the damaged part and preserves the rest of the tooth. A feature of the overlay is that it can preserve the enamel around the neck of the tooth.

How are overlays and inlays different?

An inlay fills a cavity inside the tooth, while an overlay covers and reinforces the chewing surface when the whole chewing surface is damaged but the sides are intact.

How are inlays and onlays different?

If damage stays within the chewing surface, we consider an inlay; if it has spread to the edge, an onlay. The exact extent is often confirmed after removing the damaged part.

Is MINISH part of natural tooth preservation?

Yes. The Chief Director groups overlays, onlays, inlays, laminate veneers and MINISH under the name ceramic adhesive restoration.

How is a cracked tooth diagnosed?

We use Q-ray, a diagnostic aid. It is used to check for secondary decay or cracks around restorations, and we take images both when a crack is visible and when it is not visible but there are symptoms.

Does a crack always need treatment?

It depends on how far the crack has progressed. After examination, we explain what treatment is needed.

Can an overlay be done on the same day?

Inlays and crowns can sometimes be finished on the same day, and onlays and overlays are possible in some cases. However, overlays take a little longer to make and place, so same-day treatment may be difficult if your schedule is tight.

Did the dentist specially study this area?

Yes. In February 2025, the Chief Director completed the course “Fundamentals of Advanced Adhesive Dentistry for Posterior Indirect Adhesive Restorations” at LEEDEN Academy. It is training directly related to indirect adhesive restorations of molars—that is, overlays and onlays.

Where is the prosthesis made?

It is made in our in-house lab. The technician designs it, and the Chief Director personally checks and adjusts it.

Can I watch the production process through EROM Live?

Yes. It is a service that lets you see every step of making your prosthesis. However, MINISH is not included.

How long is the MINISH warranty?

Our MINISH warranty period is 7 years. This is not a standard set by MINISH headquarters but a warranty set by EROM Dental itself.

Are there cases where tooth-saving treatment is not suitable?

Yes. Depending on your condition—for example, very strong bite force or severe teeth grinding—we may recommend a crown. We decide together on the right approach after the examination.

Is this program based on long experience?

Yes. The 1st-generation dentist has over 30 years of clinical experience, which underpins our gum care and natural tooth preservation.

Always together.
